GeoVax Labs, Inc. is a biotechnology company, established to develop, manufacture, license and commercialize human vaccines for diseases caused by HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and other infectious agents. GeoVax's AIDS vaccine technology is the subject of 20 issued or filed patent applications. GeoVax AIDS vaccines are designed for use in uninfected people to prevent Acquired Immunodeficiency Disease (AIDS), caused by the virus known as HIV-1, should the person ever become infected. GeoVax AIDS vaccines also may be effective as therapeutics (treatment of people already infected with AIDS virus). Studies evaluating these vaccines in HIV/AIDS infected individuals are in the planning stage. GeoVax's core AIDS vaccine technologies were developed through a collaboration of colleagues at Emory University's Vaccine Center, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the GeoVax team. GeoVax AIDS vaccines have moved forward in human clinical trials conducted by the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) based in Seattle, Washington. The HVTN, funded through a cooperative agreement with the National Institutes of Health [NIH), is the largest worldwide clinical trials program dedicated to the development and testing of AIDS vaccines. Preclinical work enabling evaluation of GeoVax DNA and MVA vaccines was funded and supported by NIAID, which provided additional support to GeoVax AIDS vaccine development program with a $15 million IPCAVD grant awarded in late 2007.

I've been following the company for quite some time. There may be some pretty crazy offers down the road but I believe Emory University owns more than half of the company and due to the potential that GeoVax could become their flagship biotech, someday, selling it would be like shooting themselves in the foot; furthermore, other Emory-based (although, not publicly traded) biotech companies are trading in the $8 to $20 range and it is my opinion that given time GOVX could, potentially, surpass them all. Mr. McNally was very correct in stating that the world needs a vaccine to take the place of much more expensive medications for combating HIV/AIDS. I have heard accounts that finding a child over the age of 10 in regions of sub-Saharan Africa whose parents have not yet succumbed to this disease can be difficult. The Millennium Development Goals of 2015, set by the G8 nations a few years back, promises to "halt and reverse" the spread of HIV/AIDS as well as other communicable diseases such as malaria. It could be that short of pumping hundreds of millions into this company to ensure adequate funding for research, not one of the high-prevalence HIV countries will see this goal realized by that time. Such a vaccine means that the number of times a patient must be treated is far less than with conventional treatments and coupled with the fact that large quantities can be manufactured quickly and relatively inexpensively, there is a real chance that the "tide could turn" so-to-speak in the most beleaguered populations. African children are being starved to pay of the continent's debt and those dying of HIV/AIDS are denied medical treatment due to the high expense that such treatment entails. GeoVax's vaccine, once FDA approved (after what I hope to be a fast-tracked 3rd-stage human-clinal trial) could bring hope to the governments of African countries (Zambia, for example) or India and China so that they can, at least, have a fighting chance of halting the spread of HIV/AIDS. Co-founder of GeoVax and V.P. of R.&D., Dr. Harriet Robinson, has devoted her life to this cause. After more than 20 years of vaccine-related research, I now believe that her dream will soon be realized and to the momentous benefit of science as well as mankind.
Most AIDS conferences state the that most vaccine tests have failed
Based on news lately where companies are going back to basics as the current approach has not worked and now that GeoVax is only one of 2 companies at this Phase 2 trial stage, what is the probability that GEOVAX could be acquired.
